Dr. Melvin C. Jordan

Dr. Melvin C. Jordan, founder of MJ DRUMS and Associates LLC, worked as Manager Intermodal and Automotive Communications Systems for Norfolk Southern Corporation from September 1997 thru October 2018. Melvin retired from Norfolk Southern on November 1, 2018. Melvin was responsible for managing the RF Communications hardware and software for forty-seven Intermodal Terminals. Melvin was also responsible for installing new Radio Frequency communications systems at Automotive Terminals. Melvin managed eighteen Automated Gate Systems at Intermodal Terminals. Melvin participated in the design and development of new seven Intermodal and five Automotive Terminals. During his career, Melvin has spent over 30 years working on a variety of assignments. Melvin manufactured satellite communication systems for the Navy for 10 years after he graduated from Norfolk State University in 1985.

WORK CAREER: Melvin's jobs ranged from Systems Analyst, Designer, Associate Designer, Senior Developer, Developer, Network Administrator, Network Consultant, Programmer, Facility Manager, Project Manager, Test Manager, Engineering Cost Analyst, Engineer, Safety Engineer, Test Engineer, and Electronic Technician. Melvin started his career at NS in September 1997 as a contractor for Tek Systems as a Network Administrator before becoming a full-time employee with the IT Department in May 1988. Melvin worked at Eastern Virginia Medical School, Bell Atlantic, CASDE Manufacturing Corporation, CASDE Corporation, and Superior Engineering Corporation.

EDUCATION CREDENTIALS: Melvin received completed his degree for Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership in Information Systems and Technology in 2020 from the University of Phoenix. Melvin's dissertation is titled "Intermodal Railroad Technology Performance Improvement Project: Program Assessment." Melvin received his Master of Information Systems Degree in March of 2012 from the University of Phoenix. In addition, Melvin received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronic Technology in 1985 from Norfolk State University with a minor in Computer Science and an Associate of Science Degree in Industrial Electronics Technology in 1984. Melvin has over thirty years of information technology experience providing support and management of computer systems and associated networks.

MUSICIAN: Melvin has been a percussionist for the past 44 years. Melvin also plays the trumpet with the Norfolk State University Alumni Spartan Legion Band in Norfolk, VA.
