At 3yrs old, my father realized I was outgrowing the rhythmic possibilities a toddler could perform with two spoons and two bowls of oatmeal. It was time to graduate to the big leagues.
When it arrived, I eagerly set on my First Act children’s drum set and began bangin’ away, but there was a catch! My dad only allowed me to play during the commercials, which in retrospect, brilliant move Dad.
I didn’t know it then, but that was the beginning of falling in love with these big wooden circles.
Years later and that kid has graduated from those little drums too. From attending the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for jazz during high school, to earning a full ride to college through drumming, and to touring across the U.S. and Canada for the first time in 2023, a lot has happened. And the thing is, it’s still just the beginning.
I believe I was put on this earth to do a few things and you best believe that hitting these drums is one of them.
